Aurora intruders pretend to be delivery workers dropping off package before robbing family

The armed robbery took place on the night of June 12 at a home in the 4100 block of Richfield Street, according to a spokesperson for Aurora Police.

AURORA, Colo. — A family in Aurora was robbed inside their home after a group of armed intruders pretended to be delivery workers dropping off a package, according to a social media post by the Aurora Police Department.

A department spokesperson said that on June 12, at around 8:45 p.m., three individuals wearing construction vests stood outside a family's home in the 4100 block of South Richfield Street holding a package and waited for someone to open the door.

Once someone did, the intruders pushed through the door and stole cash and personal items, according to the spokesperson. The intruders, who appeared to be between 20 and 30 years old, had a gun, the spokesperson said.

At the time of the robbery, three people — a man and two preteens — were inside the home, per the spokesperson. No one was seriously injured in the invasion, but some "minor scrapes" were reported, the spokesperson said.

As of this publication, no arrests have been made in connection to this invasion. Investigators believe the family might have been targeted because they run a business out of their home, according to the spokesperson.

In their social media post, Aurora Police urged people to be cautious of strangers at their doors and shared the following list of reminders:

  • Packages typically do not require a signature or that you physically accept the package.
  • Keep in mind that delivery drivers usually wear branded uniforms.
  • You may also consider alternate delivery options, like picking up your mail from a P.O. box. or choosing a "Hold for Pickup" option.
  • If your mail seems suspicious, please contact the carrier and be sure to report any crime to local police.
