CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — Two people who were in a stolen vehicle are on the run after stealing from a store at the Outlets at Castle Rock, carjacking someone, and then leading officers on a pursuit where they traveled at high speeds in opposing lanes of traffic, a spokeswoman for the Castle Rock Police Department said.
Around 1:30 p.m. the department was alerted by a stationary license plate reader that a stolen vehicle was within town limits. Three people were in that stolen vehicle and later stole from a store at the outlet mall, according to the spokeswoman.
Caste Rock officers and members of mall security responded to the scene. Two of the suspects ran away and then carjacked a vehicle, police said. The occupant of that vehicle was taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
The two suspects involved in the carjacking left the area on northbound Interstate 25 and were later located headed east on E-470. Castle Rock officers pursued the suspects who eventually exited at Smoky Hill Road. During the pursuit, the spokeswoman said the suspects were speeding and driving in opposing lanes of heavy traffic.
At that time, police determined it was unsafe to continue and ended the pursuit.
The third suspect stole a vehicle from a nearby apartment complex to escape, according to police. None of the suspects have been located.
