DENVER — The owner of South Broadway bar The Brutal Poodle is trying to find the people who broke into his place earlier this week.
Wes Moralez has owned the bar, which is known for its heavy metal ambiance, for six and a half years. He said he walked in on Monday morning and saw the back door open. At first he didn't think anything was stolen, until he made it into his office.
"I turn a corner, looked where our safe was and it was wide open and completely cleaned out," he said. "I almost had a panic attack."
Surveillance video shows a masked suspect walking through the bar. Moralez thought it would be hard to identify the person, but an anonymous phone call on Tuesday may have changed that.
"They came in and talked to me saying they were 99.9% sure that they knew who the person was," Moralez said. "The identifying thing for the anonymous tip was [the suspect's] training shoes and the leather chaps that [the suspect] wears."
In other surveillance footage it appears the suspect can be seen with another person getting onto a motorcycle and driving away.
Moralez said he shared the information with police. He said the suspect got away with some customer credit cards as well as $8,000 in cash, which includes some employee tips.
"That was immediately my first concern was like, how is my staff going to get paid? Like, they need their money," Moralez said.
Less than 24 hours later, the community answered, raising enough money to cover the funds lost.
"The amount of support and outreach the community gave us is just, it's crazy," he said as he fought back tears. "It means a lot."
Denver Police said the case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
