Boy, 12, arrested after 'potential threat via social media'

The Cherry Creek School District sent a message out to Overland High School and Prairie Middle School communities Tuesday afternoon.

AURORA, Colo. — A 12-year-old boy was arrested and facing charges of interfering with a school facility according to the Aurora Police Department.

The Cherry Creek School District sent a message out to Overland High School and Prairie Middle School communities Tuesday afternoon saying a "person who made a potential threat via social media has been identified and taken into police custody."

The district said with any and all threats, including those made via social media, this threat was taken very seriously and was immediately investigated by authorities who have determined that there is no danger to students or staff members.

Cherry Creek also reminded students, staff and parents to report safety concerns to Safe2Tell, an anonymous reporting tool available throughout Colorado.
