Aurora Police investigating two overnight shootings

Police do not believe the shootings at an apartment complex parking lot on East 4th Avenue and a nightclub parking lot on East Colfax Avenue are related.

AURORA, Colo. — Aurora Police are investigating two shootings early Sunday morning that killed one person and injured three others.

The first shooting was reported around 1:20 a.m. at an apartment complex located at 13798 E. 4th Ave.

Police said several people were gathered in the parking lot when a fight broke out during an argument. 

One man was shot multiple times and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and another man was stabbed and taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

One person was taken into custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

The second shooting was reported around 1:45 a.m. in the parking lot of a nightclub at 11249 E. Colfax Ave.

Officers found a gunshot victim in the parking lot who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Adams County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 25-year-old Rafael Rivera Velez.

A second victim, a 34-year-old man, self-transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and is expected to survive, police said.

No arrests have been made in the second shooting, and police were not able to immediately share any suspect information.

Police do not believe the two shootings are related.
