Aurora shooting victim identified

Police said the suspect fell out of a moving car as he was trying to get away.

AURORA, Colo. — A suspect is in custody after a deadly shooting in Aurora Friday night. 

The Aurora Police Department said officers responded to a call of shots fired at a home in the 3600 block of South Zeno Way at around 10:45 p.m. Friday. That's near East Hampden Avenue and South Tower Road.

When they got there, they saw a man driving away.

APD said additional officers followed the car and when the suspect made a turn, he fell out of the moving vehicle. The car then crashed nearby. 

Police said the suspect was taken to the hospital and is now in police custody there, facing a first-degree murder charge. He has been identified as 43-year-old Gilbert Vermillion.

Officers found a 45-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. They tried to save his life, but he later died at the hospital. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Aaron Paul Dafler.
