Man sentenced in 2020 deadly stabbing

AURORA, Colo. — A man was sentenced Friday to 30 years in the Department of Corrections in connection with a deadly 2020 stabbing in Aurora.

Officers from the Aurora Police Department responded to the Aurora Day Resource Center at 13387 E. 19th Place on a reported stabbing just before 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2020.

They found 44-year-old Corey Joe Barbee suffering from an apparent stab wound. He was taken to a hospital and died a week later.

Abdifatah Nur was arrested on the day of the stabbing and later charged with first-degree murder. That charge was dismissed as part of a plea deal. On May 5 of this year, Nur pleaded guilty to a single count - second-degree murder - heat of passion.

On Friday he was sentenced to 30 years behind bars but was given credit for time he's already spent behind bars which was more than 3.5 years.
