2 suspects in viral video of Aurora apartment break-in are arrested in New York

Two of the men suspected of breaking into an apartment in Aurora in August were arrested Wednesday, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

AURORA, Colo. — Two men who were seen in a viral video breaking into an Aurora apartment unit were arrested Wednesday in New York, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Edilson Yoel Pena-Angulo, 25, and Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses, 23, were taken into custody after the execution of a search warrant, ICE said. They were wanted on suspicion of first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm.

Both men are confirmed members of a Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, and will remain in ICE custody pending criminal and immigration proceedings, ICE said.

Pena-Angulo and Aramillo-Meneses were among six men identified by Aurora Police as being involved in a menacing at the Edge at Lowry apartments at East 12th Avenue and Dallas Street.

Around 11:30 p.m. Aug. 18, the six armed men, five with handguns and one with a rifle, knocked on the doors of two apartments, entered those apartments and threatened the residents.

According to arrest warrants, that rifle is the same one fired during the Aug. 18 shooting that killed 25-year-old Oswaldo Jose Dabion Araujo. Police said it is also similar to the one in the viral clip that was captured about 10 minutes before Araujo was shot outside the 12th Avenue and Dallas Street apartments.

Another man accused of being involved in the break-in, Naudi Lopez-Fernandez, 21, is also in custody, Aurora Police said in October.

Earlier this year, Aurora Police and the city pushed back on claims that the city had been "taken over" by Tren de Aragua. President-elect Donald Trump and other politicians have repeated those claims.

Tren de Aragua members have been arrested in Aurora for various crimes including shootings, assaults and menacing incidents.

Many of the incidents happened at or near the Fitzsimmons Place apartments on Nome Street and the Whispering Pines Condominiums; however, some gang members were arrested for crimes that occurred in Jefferson and Boulder counties.
