Armed robbery prompts lockouts at JeffCo schools

The suspect was last seen holding a white plastic bag with a heart on it.
An armed robbery at a beauty supply store prompted lockouts Monday morning at multiple Jefferson County schools.

A search for the suspect in an armed robbery at a beauty supply store Monday morning prompted lockouts at four nearby Jefferson County schools.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office says Shaffer Elementary School, Mortensen Elementary School, Collegiate Academy and Falcon Bluffs Middle School were all placed on lockout in wake of the robbery at Sally Beauty at 9956 Remington Pl.

Deputies have been looking for a suspect since around 9:20 a.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect is described as a skinny black man in his 20s who is around 6’1”. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black bandana, black pants and a light beige coat, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

He was last seen holding a white plastic bag with a heart on it.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

This incident is not related to a lockout earlier in the morning at Columbine High School, which has since been lifted.

Jeffco Schools spokesperson Diana Wilson says someone called the school and made a threat, which turned out not to have been viable.

The lockout was put into place at 9:20 a.m. and lifted at 10:15 a.m.
