ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — Adams County Sheriff's Office says a man "stopped breathing" when deputies tried to arrest him Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff's office said in a news release that deputies responded to a report of an arson in progress just after 2:30 p.m. in the 6800 block of Highway 79 in Bennett. The sheriff's office said the man was trying to light items on fire inside a home.
According to the release, the man on scene "became combative" when deputies arrived and attempted to contact him.
The man fought with deputies before he "stopped breathing" as deputies tried to take him into custody, the release says.
Deputies then immediately provided aid to the man on the scene before he was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, the sheriff's office said. His current condition was not available.
The 17th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating.
