Adams County Sheriff's Office investigating hit-and-run crash as possible homicide

"It’s hard to believe somebody got him like this," Duran said. "I want to know why my brother got killed. Why did they do that to my brother?"

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A hit-and-run case out of Adams County is now being investigated as a possible homicide. The crash happened in late May off Federal Boulevard just north of Interstate 76.

Family members told 9NEWS that authorities found 48-year-old Daniel 'Danny' Duran in the road.

"We’ve been looking for answers ever since," said Gene Duran, Danny's twin brother.

On May 21, officers were called to Federal Boulevard just north of I-76. When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the roadway and believed he was hit by a car. Later, the circumstances changed.

Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said during its investigation of the hit-and-run crash, information led authorities to believe this may have been a homicide. CSP handed the case over to the Adams County Sheriff's Office (ACSO).

In a statement to 9NEWS, ACSO said their investigation will, "look into the possibility of a hit-and-run, a separate incident where the victim may have been moved to the road or anything else that comes to light."

"First thing that came through my mind was how absolutely shocking," said Julian Duran Sisneros, Danny Duran's son. He admits he didn't know his father well, but he was hoping to change that.

"I just turned 21-years-old, getting my adult life going, and with him not being there as a kid, I wanted him to be there as an adult," Duran Sisneros said as he choked back tears.

The Duran family remembered Danny as a smart and loving person. They admit he battled with mental illness, but stressed he did not deserve this kind of ending.  They hope anyone that has any information about the case contacts the authorities.

"He was a good dude and a lot of people loved him," Duran said as his voice broke. "I’m not going to stop looking. I will never stop looking until we find out [what happened], minute by minute, second by second. I want the truth."

The Adams County Coroner's Office said the autopsy report is not complete so it's unclear what the cause of death is that would lead police to suspect a homicide.  The Adams County Sheriff's Office says they are still doing interviews and identifying a person or persons of interest.
