ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — An Adams County deputy is recovering after he was hit by a suspect vehicle during a chase with law enforcement on Thursday, according to the Adams County Sheriff's Office.

The deputy was deploying "stop sticks" on the shoulder of the road near the intersection of 120th Avenue and Tower Road when the vehicle hit him, according to a Sheriff's Office press release. The deputy was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The incident started about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, when deputies responded to a report of a home invasion on Great Rock Way, east of Brighton.

Detectives later spotted a suspicious vehicle in the area of 144th Avenue and Hayesmount Road. When deputies approached the vehicle, it drove off at a high rate of speed down Hayesmount, according to the release.

Deputies pursued the vehicle to 120th and Tower Road, where the vehicle ran the red light in the intersection and stuck a vehicle, then continued through the intersection and hit the deputy.

The vehicle was going about 40 mph when it hit the deputy, according to the release.

The male driver and a female passenger were taken into custody. Through the investigation, deputies found that neither were involved in the home invasion; however, the driver was wanted for escape from a Colorado Department of Corrections halfway house, according to the release.

The driver was identified as Cesar Irreza, 29, of Lochbuie, who was arrested on suspicion of assault on a peace officer and vehicular eluding, and on a warrant as an escaped fugitive.

The passenger was identified as Annesa Deleon, 32, of Aurora. She was arrested on suspicion of parole violation.
