2 men sentenced to life in prison for roles in killing 27-year-old man who was picking up his dinner

Andrew Jenicek, 27, was shot in an Edgewater parking lot after getting out of his car to pick up his dinner.

EDGEWATER, Colorado — Two men will be spending the rest of their lives in prison for their role in the death of a 27-year-old man who was shot and killed while picking up his dinner at an Edgewater restaurant.

Joseph Vigil and Devon Howard were tried together earlier this month. Following a 10 day trial, Vigil was convicted on 16 counts, including first-degree murder for the death of Andrew Jenicek. Howard was convicted on 18 counts.

Vigil, 20, was sentenced to life plus 124 years in prison. Six years of that is from a jail assault.

Howard, 21, got two consecutive life sentences plus 171 years in prison. His sentence was enhanced because he’s considered a habitual criminal, according to Pam Russell with Jefferson County District Attorney’s office. He had two prior felony convictions.

Jenicek was killed on April 5, 2018 in a parking lot at West 20th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard. The Colorado native attended D’Evelyn High School. After getting a scholarship to play at the University of Sioux Falls, Janicek finished his finance degree at CU Denver and went on to work for the state, according to his family.
