DENVER — Two men were arrested on kidnapping and other charges after their roommate reported that they held him against his will and assaulted him, according to the Denver Police Department.

Police said on Thursday, the victim went to a DPD station and told police that four people he lived with had held him against his will and assaulted him, including amputating a finger. After two days, the victim was able to escape and report the situation to police, DPD said.

DPD said they had gotten a tip about the situation, and conducted a welfare check at the victim's location late Wednesday night. At that time, officers "investigated to the extent they were able without having full consent or sufficient evidence of a crime to support requesting a search warrant," DPD said in an email.

The victim told police that the suspects left the location after the welfare check, and the victim escaped hours later.

Police said two of the suspects were arrested Friday. Jose Pineda-Moreno, 19, and Darwin Veliz-Gonzalez, 34, are being held on charges including first-degree kidnapping, first-degree assault and criminal extortion.

Police said they are working to identify the other two suspects.

"We believe this is an isolated incident and have no reason to believe this situation poses a risk to the greater community," DPD said in an email.
