THORNTON, Colo. — One man has died and a second man was injured in a shooting early Sunday morning in Thornton, according to a tweet from the Thornton Police Department.
Thornton police received a call at 1:16 a.m. of shots being fired in the area of East 125th Place and Dexter Way. When officers arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds near a playground at that intersection, according to the police spokesman.
In an update Monday morning, police said one of the victims later died from his injuries. He has since been identified as Ersain Betancourt, 21, from Commerce City.
The other victim is still in the hospital, but his current condition isn't known at this time. He has not been identified.
There are no suspects in custody, and police haven't shared any suspect information. Police said Monday they were seeking help from the public to develop leads in the case.
