KUSA - One person was taken to the hospital after a confirmed explosion in a Capitol Hill apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Fire crews were called 429 East 14th Ave. about 3:30 p.m. when an explosion was reported inside a garden level apartment.
Melissa Taylor of the Denver Fire Department said the apartment was occupied by a female who was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
A dog had to be rescued from the floor above where the explosion occurred. The dog was given oxygen at the scene and is expected to make a full recovery.
Taylor says the explosion busted out windows and collapsed a non-load-bearing wall inside the apartment.
Neighbor Tiffany Bacher could hear the commotion from her apartment next door.
"I heard an explosion, and...my apartment was shaking, and I didn't know what to do because the alarms were going off. But when I opened my front door, there was smoke in the hallway and debris," Bacher said.
Police closed off surrounding streets while investigating the explosion. Crews remain on scene to assist with any possible flare ups from the fire.
The source of the explosion remains under investigation.
