DENVER — In 2023, Denver became an unexpected destination for many migrants arriving at the southern border.
Over the year, more than 30,000 migrants made it to Denver. The support they were offered dwindled as the year continued on. By the end of 2023, migrants had found themselves living on the streets with little to survive.
Journalists from 9NEWS spent the year following a few of these migrants on their journey. They shared their struggles and their accomplishments while trying to create a new life.
This project is now a documentary titled "Una Vida Nueva: A New Life."
On Tuesday, Regis University will host a screening of the documentary, followed by a panel discussion about northwest Denver's response.
It's being held in the Mountain View Room at Claver Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public.
The panelists attending include:
- Angeline McCall, 9NEWS Race and Culture contributor
- Councilwoman Amanda Sandoval, District 1
- Andrea Ryall, Highlands Mom and Neighbors Facebook Page
- Mariaelena Suarez, Papagayo
- Marc Lytle, Dean of Culture at Ricardo Flores Magon Academy
Spanish interpretation will also be provided.
