Colorado Gives Day raises record-breaking number

Colorado Gives Day is a 24-hour period of online giving and a movement to celebrate and encourage philanthropy throughout Colorado.

DENVER — Update: The 12th Colorado Gives Day on Tuesday, Dec. 7 raised a record-breaking $54,409,297 million for 3,063 participating Colorado nonprofits.

The 24-hour online giving event saw gifts from more than 72,232 unique donors through 215,864 donations.

“We are blown away and humbled by the generosity shown to Colorado nonprofits on Colorado Gives Day,” said Kelly Dunkin, president and CEO of Community First Foundation, the organization that created the giving event. “Coloradans recognize and appreciate the value our nonprofits give in helping everyone in our community thrive. From ensuring people have food and housing to supporting mental wellness to making the arts accessible to all – it all becomes possible when donors make good happen.”

Donors represented 10 countries and all 50 states plus Puerto Rico, Armed Forces Europe, Armed Forces Pacific, and Federates States of Micronesia.

“Community First Foundation founded Colorado Gives Day to provide an easy way for everyone to support their communities by donating to local nonprofits online,” said Erica Thornley, vice president of product development and ColoradoGives. “Online giving and events like Colorado Gives Day make it possible for anyone to be a philanthropist.”

Colorado Gives Day has raised more than $361 million since it launched in 2010 and the ColoradoGives.org online giving site has raised more than $486 million since it went live in 2007, said the Community First Foundation.

If you’re looking for an easy way to give back this holiday season, you can donate to your favorite Colorado nonprofits on Colorado Gives Day.

The 12th annual day of giving in the Centennial State lands on Tuesday, Dec. 7 beginning at 12 a.m.

The day is powered by ColoradoGives.org – a year-round website featuring more than 3,000 nonprofits. The program encourages people to "give where you live" and allows people to choose nonprofits that appeal to their passions.

Donations can be made on Colorado Gives Day or scheduled online in advance. Those donations scheduled ahead of time will count toward the total for Colorado Gives Day.

This year Colorado Gives Day will have a $1.6-million-dollar incentive fund provided by the Community First Foundation, FirstBank and other community members.

The fund is proportionally allocated to each non-profit that receives donations. So, if the one non-profit receives one-tenth the total giving on Colorado Gives Day, it would get one-tenth of the incentive fund, meaning every nonprofit that receives a gift on Colorado Gives Day gets an added boost.
