The ranch was established in 1909 by Enos Mills, who is considered to be the "father of Rocky Mountain National Park," according to the Denver Public Library. A notable outdoor preservation advocate, Mills successfully petitioned Congress and President Woodrow Wilson to create the park in 1915. He also operated the nearby Longs Peak Inn and climbed Longs Peak nearly 300 times, according to the Denver library.
“This is a rare opportunity for someone to write their own chapter in history at the base of Longs Peak,” said Kerry Endsley of LIV Sotheby's International Realty, listing broker for Bear Gulch Ranch, in a statement. “The provenance of the ranch, coupled by the mix of aspen and conifer trees broken by the creek, pond, and grassy meadows, is absolutely breathtaking.”
