TUCSON, Ariz. — Four years after going out of business during the pandemic, Sweet Tomatoes has officially opened a new restaurant in southern Arizona.
Sweet Tomatoes opened its first restaurant to operate in four years on Monday in Tucson.
"We are thrilled to announce that Sweet Tomatoes is making a comeback!" the company's website reads. "Under new ownership, we are excited to bring back your favorite dishes and create new memories with our loyal guests."
"Today's the day we've been eagerly waiting for – it's our grand reopening!" the restaurant posted. "After months of anticipation, we're thrilled to finally welcome you back through our doors. From the first crunch of our hand-chopped salads to the last sip of our refreshing lemonades, we expect every moment to be filled with fresh flavors and heartfelt hospitality."
The all-you-can-eat salad buffet chain closed all of its restaurants on March 16, 2020, at the start of the pandemic.
Garden Fresh Restaurants, the parent company of Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes, announced in May 2020 that it would not re-open its 97 restaurants.
Sweet Tomatoes began hiring for the new Tucson restaurant in February. The restaurant said it is accepting applications for the new restaurant at 6202 E. Broadway Blvd.
"We're baaaaaack! We missed everyone so much!" Sweet Tomatoes said. "Yes, you heard it right! Sweet Tomatoes is hiring all hourly positions for our new location in Tucson!" the company wrote on social media.
"The outpouring on social media has been overwhelming and we are so grateful to all of the sweet memories you have shared with us," the company said in 2020. "We would like to thank the 4,400 team members for their dedication and love they have shown to our local communities. We will miss you tremendously and wish you all the best."
The serve-yourself model of the Souplantation chain grew out of a single location that opened in San Diego in 1978.
