ARVADA, Colo. — Colorado-based Sooper Credit Union will change its name to Climb Credit Union this month.
The new name and rebranding will be effective May 28.
Sooper Credit Union has five branches in Colorado in Arvada, Aurora, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction and Lakewood.
Founded in 1951 by a group of King Soopers employees, the credit union now accepts membership from most Colorado residents and serves nearly 40,000 members.
The credit union said it chose the name "Climb" to reflect its passion for helping members reach the next level and that it encourages members to aspire for more. The name is optimistic and actively reaching for the future, the company said.
"After years of strategic planning, the Board of Directors and credit union leadership came to the decision to undergo a name change," said Climb Credit Union Board chairman Adam Williamson said. "I am incredibly proud of the success Sooper Credit Union has achieved in the past 73 years and I am enthusiastic about the future."
"Our passion to serve each of our members and our community has always been at the center of who we are. Our name is changing but our mission is not," said Climb Credit Union President/CEO Carrie Langgard. "As we look to the future of our credit union, we want to ensure that every member feels heard, supported and empowered to take their next steps in reaching their financial goals. Because at Climb Credit Union, no one climbs alone."
Members of the credit union will see changes in their local branches, online, and their debit and credit cards starting May 28.
