LOS ANGELES — Meow Wolf will build its sixth permanent exhibition in a movie theater in Los Angeles, the company announced Friday.
The Santa Fe-based immersive art and entertainment company currently has locations in Denver, Las Vegas, and Dallas. A Houston location is scheduled to open this year.
"For years we've made trips to Los Angeles, dreaming of creating something in its layered and ever-changing network of creativity," said Sean Di Ianni, Co-Founder of Meow Wolf and Senior Creative Director of Meow Wolf Los Angeles. "L.A. is more than a physical place; it extends deep into the global landscape of human imagination, constantly pushing its own bounds. Meow Wolf Los Angeles will stretch these cinematic horizons by weaving together an unpredictable tapestry of art, story and interactivity."
Meow Wolf features interconnected interactive worlds with underlying storylines with each experience being unique, unlike conventional escape rooms, selfie museums, or immersive projection mapped tours.
"This is more than an immersive experience," said Jose Tolosa, CEO of Meow Wolf. "We want it to be a part of the city's ongoing narrative of growth. Being in Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world, we're humbled to add to the dynamic interplay between art and entertainment here. Meow Wolf Los Angeles will blur the lines between reality and fantasy, inviting everyone to become part of a living, breathing spectacle."
Friday's announcement of a new Los Angeles location comes two weeks after Tolosa told employees that the company planned to cut expenses by 10% and reduce its workforce by 165 employees.
Fifty employees of Denver's Convergence Station are losing their jobs as part of the company's reorganization.
Meow Wolf employs more than 1,000 people in corporate offices in Los Angeles and New York and across four exhibitions:
- Convergence Station in Denver
- The House of Eternal Return in Santa Fe
- Omega Mart in Las Vegas
- The Real Unreal in Grapevine, a suburb in the Dallas-Forth Worth area
Meow Wolf's Convergence Station opened in September 2021 at the intersection of Interstate 25 and Colfax in Denver. It passed one million visitors in its first nine months of operations.
