WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Construction has begun on a 247-unit affordable housing community in a northern suburb of Denver.

The $89 million multifamily project of the Overlook at Uplands, in Westminster, will include one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. The units are available to households earning between 40% and 70% of the area median income, the developer St. Charles Town Co. said in a news release.

The apartments are being built in the planned community of Uplands Colorado, a 234-acre development. The large project will include a variety of housing types, as well as office, retail, restaurant and commercial space, St. Charles Town Co. said. The development will include 40 acres of open space and is adjacent to the Hyland Hills open space area featuring 100 acres of trails, wetlands and parks.

“The diversity of housing options and area amenities within Uplands Colorado will allow existing residents to age in place and help new residents find housing they can actually afford in Westminster, a high income and high barrier to entry market,” stated the release.

Amenities in the Overlook at Uplands include a pool and children’s splash pad, multiple barbecue areas, a sports court and a clubhouse, the company said.
