DENVER — Denver is the fifth-worst among the United States’ largest cities for how many hours the average worker has to put in to pay the monthly rent.
SmartAsset, the financial advice website, has calculated that it takes 61.4 hours of work each month to pay the median rent of $1,330 in Denver if you’re making the median after-taxes wage of $34,335, or $21.65 per hour.
Of course, having a roommate can help.
Four of the 10 cities where it takes the most work hours to pay the rent are in California. San Jose, Los Angeles and San Diego have had a lock on the top three in the survey since it was begun.
