ASPEN, Colo. — Two former executives of department store JCPenney are selling their latest project in the mountains of Colorado.

The recently built home on 38 acres in Old Snowmass listed Sept. 23 with an asking price of $30 million.

The modern mountain home was the vision of Peter McGrath, executive vice president of private brands for JCPenney until his retirement in 2010, and his wife, Janet Fox, JCPenney’s senior vice president of sourcing from 2007 to 2011 who also held executive roles at Under Armour and RadioShack before retiring in 2022.

The couple bought the property at 6890 E. Sopris Creek Road in October 2020 for $2.3 million. They first worked to clear the land of old structures, including a railroad caboose, a two-bedroom home, a garage and a tennis court, according to listing agent Ann Abernethy of Compass Real Estate Aspen.

The couple then built a rare single-level residence with four bedrooms and five bathrooms, she said.

The home was designed to meet the maximum 5,750 square feet allowed in that part of Pitkin County and features a gym, sauna, hot tub, fire pits and a complete outdoor kitchen, Abernethy said.
