COLORADO, USA — A temporary rental assistance program in Colorado opens Wednesday.

Colorado's Department of Local Affairs has funding available through the Temporary Rental Assistance Grant for temporary rental assistance for Coloradans who have fallen behind on their rent, meet income limits and other qualifying factors, and are at risk of eviction or displacement.

Funds provided by the department are temporary and will be distributed until fully exhausted, according to the state's website.

In April, Denver County recorded the largest number of eviction filings in one single month, according to data from the Community Economic Defense Project. There were 1,665 eviction filings, compared to 1,038 in April 2023 and 576 in April 2022.

The state will start accepting applications for the program at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
