DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL- Xcel Energy Inc. and three community solar power developers said Tuesday that they’ve reached an agreement to add up to 60 megawatts of solar power in Colorado.

Community solar are medium-sized solar power stations in which businesses or individuals can buy or lease solar power panels and get credit off their monthly bill for the renewable energy produced by the panels.

Colorado was the first state in the nation to allow such systems on the grid and they’ve proved popular with customers who can’t or won’t put solar power on their own rooftops. Only about 25 percent of all the homes in the United States are appropriate for solar power, according to studies.

The agreement represents the end of disputes over how much community solar power Xcel (NYSE: XEL) should allow onto its system for 2014 and 2016 through its Solar*Rewards Community program.
