Sports Authority has sent emails to its customers telling them that any personal information they provided to the company now belongs to Dick's Sporting Goods.

The email, sent Wednesday, tells the bankrupt Englewood-based sporting-goods chain's former customers that in its liquidation, Sports Authority's customer database was purchased by rival Dick's (NYSE: DKS).

The customer's private information will remain with Sports Authority until Sept. 15 and be protected under the chain's privacy policy until then. After that, all of the personal information will belong to Dick's.
