Moving is never easy.
That's especially true when you have to move more than 100,000 toy trains, tracks, whistles and just about every part needed to build a model railroad – and 90 days to get it done.
This is the monumental task facing Caboose Hobbies on South Broadway.
For nearly 80 years, Caboose Hobbies has been selling model trains and parts in Denver and all over the world.
A few weeks ago, Caboose Hobbies was told it would have to leave. Its lease would not be renewed.
“Our understanding is that the building will probably be demolished and the family that owns the land is going to lease the land to build something else,” store manager Ken Cook said.
Caboose Hobbies is considered the world’s largest model train store. Lou Schornack has been shopping there for 15 years.
“I was somewhat stunned,” he said. “This is pretty sad. This is sort of the icon for model railroading.”
Corey Kennedy and his family drove from a small town in Illinois to vacation in Denver. Caboose Hobbies was a must see.
Kennedy has been a train enthusiast since he was a kid. Now he says he’s trying to get his daughter interested.
The one-year-old girl took home a pink train.
Caboose Hobbies says they're not sure if they'll open in a new location or just sell their products online.
The store has until early October to move out.
