DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL — John Malone, chairman of Colorado's Liberty Media Corp., is leaving the board of film company Lionsgate Entertainment Corp.
The Los Angeles film company, which produced last year's Academy Award-nominated films for best picture including "La La Land" and "Hacksaw Ridge," announced the departure in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
"On July 11, 2018, Dr. John C. Malone and Scott Paterson notified the board of directors of Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. that they will retire from the board, and will not stand for reelection at the company’s 2018 annual general meeting of shareholders. Messrs. Malone’s and Paterson’s retirement are not the result of any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to its operations, policies or practices. Messrs. Malone and Paterson will continue to serve on the board, and Mr. Paterson will continue to serve as the chair of the audit & risk committee, until the expiration of their current term at the 2018 annual meeting, which is expected to be held in September 2018."
Malone joined the Lionsgate board in February 2015, after a stock exchange deal between the movie studio and one of his Douglas County-based companies, Starz. Malone is one of the largest shareholders of Lionsgate.
