Fat Albert's closing after 42 years

Fat Albert's announced in a social media post that they're closing at the end of August after more than four decades.

GREELEY, Colo. — A restaurant staple in northern Colorado will close its doors after 42 years.

Fat Albert's, at 1717 23rd Ave. in Greeley, announced in a Facebook post on Monday that the restaurant's final day will be on Aug. 31.

In the post, the owners said after many years of incredible memories, it was time for Fat Albert's to close. They said It wasn't an easy decision but that they wanted to celebrate and focus on the community they built through the restaurant.

"For 42 years, Fat Albert’s has been more than just a place to eat — it’s been a home away from home, a space where friends became family, and where memories were made around tables filled with love, laughter and delicious food,"  they said in the post. "It has been our greatest honor to be part of your lives, from celebrating your special moments to simply sharing a smile over a favorite dish."

While the owners stated that they tried their best to navigate challenges, the closure was the most responsible path for them and their family. They said they will refocus their energy on new opportunities going forward.

The owners encouraged people to continue supporting other local business and that it's vital to keeping the community strong, especially during challenging times.

Many people took to the comments of the Facebook post to express their gratitude toward the restaurant and to share their memories, whether they were customers or past employees.

"Thank you, Greeley and the rest of Northern Colorado, for the love and support you’ve shown us over the years," the owners said in the post. "We will carry these memories with us always, and we hope Fat Albert’s has left a lasting impact on you, just as you have on us."
