Ex-Colorado congresswoman named regional SBA chief

The U.S. Small Business Administration on Monday announced that Betsy Markey, a Colorado congresswoman from 2009 to 2011, will become the regional administrator for Colorado and neighboring states.

DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - The U.S. Small Business Administration on Monday announced that Betsy Markey, a Colorado congresswoman from 2009 to 2011, will become the regional administrator for Colorado and neighboring states.

She succeeds Matt Varilek of South Dakota. Varilek was a former aide to U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson, D-South Dakota, and former Sen. Tom Daschle.

Varilek was promoted in March 2015 to COO for the SBA in Washington D.C., and Utah District Director Stan Nakano has been serving as acting regional administrator.
