DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Four years after the Westminster Mall was torn down amid dreams of building a new downtown for the city, the project has its first commitment from a new business.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema -- a movie theater/restaurant chain based in Austin, Texas -- plans to open a 40,000-square-foot complex at the 105-acre redevelopment site at U.S. 36 and Sheridan Boulevard.

David Kennedy, Alamo's co-founder, says the company sees "great opportunity in the Downtown Westminster site, and we're looking forward to bringing our special brand of entertainment there."

Alamo opened its first Colorado location in Littleton in March 2013.

The theater will be located in the west side of the site in a three-block area to be developed by Minneapolis-based Sherman Associates Inc., the city of Westminster and the Westminster Economic Development Authority announced late Tuesday.
