The Denver City Council voted late Monday to grant Denver International Airport officials six months to hammer out a development deal with an international group of companies for a massive overhaul of the airport’s main terminal.
If the deal goes through, security checkpoints would be moved out of the terminal's Great Hall, the big open space under the airport's signature tented roof, and to an upper level where security would share space with a consolidated set of airline check-in counters. And new shops and restaurants would be added to the Great Hall.
The council’s 10-2 vote on the resolution now awaits Mayor Michael Hancock's signature to make it final.
The resolution authorizes airport officials to talk to the the project team -- led by the airports division of Spain’s Ferrovial SA -- under a predevelopment contract that has a $9 million cap.
