Denver-based Digital First Media, the owner of the Denver Post, Boulder Daily Camera and dozens of other newspapers nationwide, may be looking to buy the Boston Herald, one of Boston's two daily metro newspapers.

Digital First Media is the business name of MediaNewsGroup, or MNG. The company already owns two daily newspapers in Massachusetts along with a handful of weeklies.

The news of Digital First's potential bid for the Herald via a company called MNG-Herald Acquisition LLC was first reported by the Herald on Saturday.

In an email obtained by the Boston Business Journal -- sister news outlet of the Denver Business Journal -- that was sent on Friday to managers at the Herald, the editor of the Digital First Media-owned St. Paul Pioneer Press, Mike Burbach, said that a team from the company would visit the Herald newsroom this coming week. The plan would be to conduct interviews with staff "should MNG Herald Acquisition submit the winning bid for the Boston Herald," the memo said.
