Some of the best doctors and surgeons in the state teach classes and serve as faculty members at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora — and they have the salaries to prove it.
The highest-paid faculty member is James Jaggers, a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon and the co-medical director at the Children's Hospital Colorado's Heart Institute.
"The University of Colorado School of Medicine strives to recruit and retain the best faculty. We compete with other top academic medical centers and private institutions for these talented physicians and researchers," said CU Anschutz in a statement.
"Compensation for our faculty is almost entirely dependent on revenue from patient visits, research grants and other factors that generate revenue and does not rely on state funding," the statement said.
