DENVER — In just about a month, The Colorado Sun, a recently founded reader-supported news outlet surpassed its fundraising goal on Kickstarter.
Several staffers who left The Denver Post amid budget and staff cuts made by the newspaper's New York-based hedge fund owners formed the online news site called The Colorado Sun. They've described themselves as a community-supported, journalist-owned team focused on investigative, explanatory and narrative journalism.
They launched an online fundraiser to get started and on Twitter Tuesday said they had raised 215% of their goal, or just over $161,000.
According to their website, they plan to officially launch some time in August. In the meantime, you can sign up for their newsletter.
