The public could get general maps of where oil and gas pipelines are located within their communities under a proposal state officials were discussing Tuesday.
The proposal has been under review for months and the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) was expected to vote later Tuesday on new, expanded pipeline regulations.
The regulations would again put Colorado at the forefront of oversight of the oil and gas industry and are one aspect of the response by the state and industry to the fatal Firestone home explosion and fire in April 2017.
That accident killed two men and severely injured a woman. Local fire investigators said it was caused by the explosion of raw natural gas that leaked from an active well into the home via a pipeline that was thought to have been abandoned years ago.
