DENVER — Not long after retaking the title as Colorado's richest resident, satellite and cable mogul Charlie Ergen continues to lead the state's six other billionaires on the Forbes 400 list, the magazine's roster of the wealthiest Americans.
In 2021, Dish Network Corp. (Nasdaq: DISH) co-founder and chairman Ergen, of Denver, overtook real estate and entertainment billionaire Philip Anschutz in Forbes' rankings. Ergen now ranks as the 56th-richest American with a fortune of $13 billion to 66th-ranking Anschutz's $10.8 billion, according to Forbes. Both climbed the ranks since 2020 when their net worth was tallied at $9.3 billion and $10.1 billion, respectively.

Nearly rounding out the list's top 100 is "cable cowboy" John Malone, chairman of Englewood-based Liberty Media Corp. and Liberty Global, at No. 98. Malone's growth in wealth from April 2020's listed $5.8 billion reached $8.4 billion in 2021. Malone, of Elizabeth, is the nation's biggest individual landowner, with a portfolio of over 2 million acres spread across seven states, according to the publication.
