DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - CenturyLink Inc. says it will cut 1,000 positions out of 44,000 companywide. The telecom hasn't said how many of those cuts will be in Colorado.

"We don't have specific impacts by community and/or by state at this time," CenturyLink spokeswoman Annmarie Sartor told the Monroe (Louisiana) News-Star newspaper in the company's headquarters city.

In Colorado, where CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) is the largest land-line phone company in the wake of its 2011 acquisition of the former Qwest Communications International, the company's employee footprint has been shrinking in recent years.

It was about 5,800 in 2014, down from 6,900 the year before and 7,000 in 2012, according to Denver Business Journal List research. The company's overall headcount has declined recently as well.
