KUSA - American Financing Corp. owners Damian and Gabie Maldonado just signed a lease for a 52,000-square-foot office building in Aurora, with room for 320 employees there.
It's a far cry from 1997, when the two of them worked out of their Denver home to launch their own mortgage company two years later.
Damian was 21 years old then and started the company with $5,000 on his credit card, but he had a vision of owning a national mortgage company.
Even when the economy hit the skids and the couple had to lay off 40 employees in 2009, they hung on while other mortgage companies were consolidating or going by the wayside.
Today, the company is licensed in all 50 states, has employees in nine states and a total of 200 employees in its Denver office.
