4 Denver mayors (past and present) share how they built on each other's prior successes

The four mayors' service spans four decades.

Four Denver mayors — one current and three former — on Tuesday talked about building the city on foundations of their predecessor, and what's next for Colorado's largest city.

The four mayors' service spans four decades, from the 1980s to today. the four men, all Democrats, were together Tuesday to open up the city's day-long Sustainable Denver Summit at the Colorado Convention Center.

“This made history; it’s the first time that the four mayors have appeared on stage for a public audience,” said Kelly Brough, president and CEO of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, who moderated the discussion.

Joining her on stage were:

- Current Mayor Michael Hancock, elected in 2011,
- Former Mayor Federico Peña, who served from 1983 to 1991.
- Former Mayor Wellington Webb, who served from 1991 to 2003.
- Current Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, who served as mayor from 2003 to 2011.
