DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Children's Hospital Colorado has been hit with a $17.8 million verdict following a civil lawsuit filed in Arapahoe County District Court, according to an order filed March 31.
The suit was filed by Jennifer Pressey, who brought the case on behalf of her daughter Naomi Pressey, who as an infant suffered complications during surgery at Children's and now suffers from intellectual disability and cognitive and motor skill impairment.
Naomi Pressey is 7-years-old. A press release from the plaintiffs attorney, Leventhal and Puga, said the verdict is the largest malpractice verdict in Colorado history.
The court found in favor of Pressey after a trial held from March 16 to March 27.The case was originally filed in January 2013.
The order is signed by Arapahoe County District Judge Kurt Horton.

Children's Hospital released a statement regarding the settlement Friday:
We are sorry that the Pressey family suffered this unfortunate outcome seven years ago with their child. And while we will not comment on the specifics of the recent case, we respectfully believe there are grounds to appeal the outcome.
