JEFFERSON COUNTY - One enthusiastic elk is taking spring training seriously - by practicing his athletic abilities at a local park.
At least, that's what we suppose the creature is doing in a video captured Tuesday at Elk Meadow Park in Jefferson County.
Jennifer Whalen caught the athletic animal testing out a soccer ball near the Ranger Residence at the park.
The inquisitive elk discovers the ball in some grass, nearly trips over it, and finally gets a good kick, sending the ball through a somewhat bewildered-looking 'teammate.'
Elk Meadow Park is located off of Highway 74 near Evergreen.
