There’s a logical explanation for this huge pile of snow in July

KUSA — KUSA – There’s a perfectly logical explanation for the pile of snow we got a picture of even though it’s July.

The photo in question is from viewer Cynthia Snyder, who spotted the snow in Highlands Ranch and did what you should always do when you see something funny out in the community: upload it to yourtake.9news.com.

She called the snow “unknown” but wrote: “the fact it is snow on lush green grass seems unusual to others BUT not a Colorado native!!”

You’re right, Cynthia! But we’re journalists and love a good mystery. Thanks to the hawk-eyed observational skills of Next with Kyle Clark producer Kerry Leary, we were able to use the “Littleton Hawks” sign in the background to narrow down the location to the Ice Ranch, a hockey rink off Southpark Drive.

Bingo.

Next, this intrepid investigator called the Ice Ranch to get to the bottom of the snow pile. The front desk told us that no, this isn’t an illusion, and yes, there’s a perfectly logical explanation for it.

Basically, the machine they usually use to dispose of the ice the Zamboni sweeps up is getting cleaned, so instead of leaving it in a tub that melts it and then drains it into the sewer, they’re just leaving it on the lawn.
