WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Plans to expand commuter rail service from Denver's Union Station to Longmont are up for public discussion.
The FasTracks plan calls for an expansion of commuter rail between Denver, Arvada, Westminster, Broomfield, Louisville, Boulder and Longmont.
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will hold two public in-person open houses that will provide information about the Northwest Rail Peak Service Study. The open houses will discuss the locations of proposed rail stations between Longmont and Denver, service plans and costs.

The first section of the Northwest Rail, known as the B Line, currently operates between Denver and Westminster Station at 72nd Avenue.
RTD's new study proposes to operate "peak period service" on the rail line when it's extended to Longmont. The proposal calls for three-morning trips from Longmont to Denver and three evening trips from Denver to Longmont.
The first open house will be held Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Hampton Inn & Suites Boulder-North on Lookout Road in Boulder.
The second open house will be held Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Westminster City Park Recreation Center on Sheridan Boulevard.
Both open houses will take place between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and will provide the same information, RTD said.
Those who are unable to attend one of the open houses can access the self-guided online between Jan. 31 and Feb. 21.
“We have faced challenges making the Northwest Rail a reality due to escalating costs and evolving train operation requirements and constraints. RTD remains committed to working with our regional partners to bring a rail solution to the northwest area,” RTD Study Manager Patrick Stanley said. “We hope community members join the conversation to learn more and provide input at the open house or online meeting. This feedback is incredibly valuable to the study.”
