DENVER — A Denver winery known for its canned wines is closing at the end of the year.

Infinite Monkey Theorem announced it's closing its River North taproom and ceasing production of its wines after Dec. 31.

"After much consideration, it is with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to close The Infinite Monkey Theorem after sixteen years in business,” President Nicki McTague said in a news release. “The path of entrepreneurship is often unpredictable, and while we've had many wins, we've also faced tough challenges that led us to where we are now. Unfortunately, the industry has been hit hard and wine sales are drastically decreasing both locally and nationally. Sadly, with only one location and a small staff, we don’t have a way to cut back and redirect. We’ve explored every option to try to continue our legacy, but with the rising costs surrounding rent, inventory, and labor, there is no way for our small business to succeed, despite our best efforts.”

The RiNo taproom, located at 3200 Larimer Street, will be open until December 31. The winery is also planning a farewell party in late December. Details will be announced on the Infinite Monkey Theorem's Instagram page and website.

The winery's products will also be on sale at the taproom, liquor stores and online until inventory is sold out.

The self-proclaimed "urban winery" was started in 2008 and was one of pioneers in canning wine. Food & Wine recognized the Infinite Monkey Theorem as one of the "40 Wines That Changed the Way We Drink."

While there are not any plans to reopen the winery in the future, the wine company is for sale. Anyone interesting in buying it can contact McTague at Nicki@TheInfiniteMonkeyTheorem.com.
