This is a part of the state that is full of natural beauty, but not packed with people. Perfect.

Oh, there’s some great beer too.

I obviously need to visit there more—and I’m looking for more recommendations when I do!

Hiking

Chimney Rock National Monument looks like just another pretty face with its impressive rock formations—but there’s so much more to this place than that.

It’s an impressive archeological site, where you can learn about the people who lived here 1,000 years ago.

The guided tours are worth the 12 bucks—and help maintain this Colorado gem.

Beer-ing and Eating

Riff Raff Brewing Company wins. They stole my heart with their El Duende Green Chile Ale, and kept my heart (and gut) full with their beer-brined eggs.

Sounds like a weird combo? Nope. Goes perfectly with their patio.

It’s also housed in a historic, Victorian house.

Oh yeah, they use geothermal energy—and they call their product “Earth-powered beer.” So ColoRADo.

Pagosa Hot Springs Hotel and Spa

This is a pretty sweet hot springs near downtown Pagosa Springs.

The price tag of staying there might look a little scary, but you get 24-hour access to the pools—something day pass visitors won’t get.

And that’s when you can really relax.
