LAKEWOOD, Colo. — The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced Wednesday that the Colorado ID can now be added to Google Wallet. The method allows for a digital version of a state-issued driver's license or ID card.

The DMV said after a driver's license or state identification (ID) card is added to Google Wallet, it can be used at select Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck checkpoints, including at Denver International Airport.

The DMV said the ID in Google Wallet serves as a companion to the physical, plastic driver's license or ID, not a replacement. Coloradans must continue to carry their physical driver license or ID card with them.

Colorado is among the first states to implement IDs in Google Wallet. The Colorado ID can also be added to Apple Wallet.

“In Colorado, we are continuing to improve the way we do business and implementing services that prioritize the security, privacy and convenience of our residents is one of our priorities,” said DMV Senior Director Electra Bustle. “We are excited to expand our mobile credentialing program by collaborating with the Transportation Security Administration and Google to allow Colorado residents traveling to add their Colorado ID to Google Wallet. This new service will enhance their travel experience by making it more effortless and convenient.”
