ARVADA, Colo. — Following years of delays, the G Line will finally open later this week with a lot of fun and fanfare planned.
The G Line, which runs between Denver and Wheat Ridge, is scheduled to open Friday morning after more than two years of delays. To celebrate the milestone, Olde Town Arvada is hosting a party and businesses are offering deals and discounts.
The G Line Grand Opening Party kicks off at 10 a.m. and runs through 6 p.m. It will feature live music performances throughout Olde Town, kids' activities in Olde Town Square, music by That Party Truck, and more.
Friday's inaugural trip is scheduled for around 10 a.m. It and all other rides for the next two weeks will be free, to make up for the two-and-a-half-year delay.
Passengers who start in Denver will get on the train at Union Station and then travel through Arvada before reaching Wheat Ridge. Trains will hit eight stations between the two points. In total, the 11.2-mile ride takes about 27 minutes.
The following restaurants are offering freebies and discounts:
- Bread Winners Cafe: Free mimosa with purchase of an entree
- The Cereal Box Inc.: Free limited edition bumper sticker (quantity limited). The debut of special cereal mix - "Choo Choo Chew on This"
